Happy Birthday, Mama!

During breakfast, her dada had Elle in his arm trying to give her a sip of teh tarik. Mama was messing around and saying NO in her face every time she's approaching her mouth to the cup. After getting a sip, she took an innocent glance at dada and then pointed at mama saying: "What's wrong to you, mama?". Oh boy, we burst into hysterical laughter.

Black Friday

It's amazing how a toy stroller kept Elle happy and busy while we're shopping in the mall on the black friday sales. She's pushing her bear inside the stroller following behind us, busy maneuvering it around obstacles. She brought a big smile to the crowd, simply too darling.

Happy Thanksgiving

Another steelhead got hooked just in time for a thanksgiving feast. It took us a couple of hours sweating over killing and descaling the fish, believe or not, way longer than catching it. We made half of the fish into a delish dish of curry assam fish, together with hainan shredded chicken, to the thanksgiving potluck at Auto Ria. Elle was having a blast at the potluck. First half of the time, she's all about food, chewed on the kebabs and munched on the oranges, kept asking for more more, please. During the last half of the time, she joined the kids running wildly around, screaming and fighting. All these funs really worn her out and she knocked out right after we left the party.

Have a cup of tea?

Elle just goes on and on, pretending pouring tea from the teapot and then drinking it up. What a playful innocent age.

My fashionista

Elle has grown into playing dress-up. Put on a hat, wear beads around her neck, sometimes accesserized with a bib - that's my fashionista baby. From times to times, she'll come to us, touch her head with a hair clip and say "head", requesting us to put on the hair clip for her.

Obsession

Currently her biggest obsession is SIT. While we're hanging out at B&N in a cold snowy evening, she has to sit her butt on every inches she found sittable around the children storybook telling stage. One moment, she sit on the chair, climbing up and down and even trying to push it around. The next, she'd sit on the stair. She even landed her butt on the step stool and wanted mama to sit with her. Oh, she's crazy over the bench! Love sitting on the bench with her legs hanging over the edge. At home, while she's playing her toys on the floor, she'd point her finger at a specific spot and command us to sit there.

Last night a hilarious blopper happened while we had dinner at OCB. She climbed up to her dada's chair and stand behind him. Within seconds, we knew what she's up to. She's pooping behind her dada! Crack us up.

Piano recital

Elle has been into songs lately that she'd clap and shake along with the music. When Jessie invited us to see tutu performing in the piano recital, I thought she'll be enjoying it. The thought of bringing a baby to the piano recital might be a bad idea hasn't crossed my mind until Elle started moving around the seat, reaching forward and flipping the bibles placed behind our front seat, laying on the seat for one minute and getting up to look around the next. Finally, I gave in and stuffed her mouth with a lollipop to keep her occupied and we made through to the end of the recital. The kids have done a great job in the piano recital, reminding the old days of me and my piano two decades ago.

Today's officially the first snowfall day we have this winter.

Farewell meetup

R&C family is going to leave the state this week so we all met up at Chuck E. Cheese to have a small gathering with babies in tow. It's so sweet to see the little ones hanging out together. Elle was so exicted, clapping her hands along with the music while she's watching the show broadcasted in the Studio C. It's funny that when Chuck E. Cheese mouse came nearby, she grabbed on me for dear life. She's afraid of the big mousie. The same went to KenZen. This poor little guy even burst into tears and ducked his head inside his dada's chest. The fun night ended with group picture, same pose taken four times with four digicams by the server. No doubt, it'll create nice memories to look back on in later years. We had a highlight moment of Elle throwing tantrum on the way out. It happenned the moment her dada took her drink away, immediately she dropped to her knees and lied flat on the floor whining. She looked ridiculous.

Bottoms up!

Elle simply has to bottom up, no matter it's soup, noodle, or fruit inside the bowl. Macaroni is officially named as "Halo" in her dictionary. She says she wants Halo. Crack me up. When she's eating by herself in the booster chair, she still wants to boss mama around, pointing at the chairs in the dining room, yelling "SIT SIT" to ask mama to sit at the ones she's pointing at.

Elle has been discovering the magic word "Please" and using it actively in the conversation. That day, I asked her if she wanted milk milk; to my surprise, she responded please. She always say please right after her requests, like up please, sit please, "bao bao" (carry) please, "mea mea" (horsey back ride) please. At times we do not go her way, she'd chant please, please, please like a pitiful little puppy, trying to melt our hearts and make us give in.

We taught her the word "thank you" a while back ago. It's funny that she says thank you even when she's giving out stuff. "Sorry" is the 3rd magic word she's working on now. However, the "sorry" comes out from her mouth hardly sounds like sorry at all. Nonetheless, it sounds cute, yet funny.

She surprised us with a few new words she picks up recently: jacket, toy, stand, teeth, and back. She always responses "Ready" when I ask her "Are you ready?". Now she even communicates her fear by telling us "怕 怕 怕 怕". She'd scream out "Ouch!" like a drama queen even though it only hurts a teeny bit.

She loves bath time so much that we have a hard time to get her out of the tub. The routine becomes we pretend saying goodbye to her and leaving the bathroom, and she screaming "Up Up!" to beg us getting out of it. Then, the fun of applying lotions all over begins. She always asks for "More More", wanting us to give her more lotion on her hands. She'd apply the lotion to the name of the body part we say, not only to hers but ours too. Last but not least, the battle of putting on shirt begins. She'd lie down and pretend sleeping whenever we attempt to put the shirt on her. There's no way to make her get up until we pretend saying goodbye and leaving the room. Only then she'd immediately pop her head up and get up wondering where we go. At the moment we turn around going back to her, she'd quickly duck her head and lie down, get back to the sleeping position and refuse to put on the shirt. Oh, what a mischievious baby she is!

SIT or else SLEEP

Her dada has got so frustrated of Elle hopping around like an energetic bunny near bedtime that now we have a new rule in the house, SIT or "Oau Oau", after she has finished her bottle in the living room right before bedtime. If she wanted to stay with us in the living room, she has to sit quietly on the couch.

Mama enjoy watching her sneaky battle with her dada silently. She'd peep at her dada to make sure he's not aware of whatever rebellious plan cooking in her mind. Then, she'd sneakily stand up on the couch, climb up and down the couch, reach things on the coffee table, or walking and crawling from one end to the other end of the couch. Whenever the dada catches her in action and warns her with a stern voice: "SIT or oau oau!", she'd shake her head, whining "NO" like a sad little puppy, and quickly rush back to the couch getting back to her sitting position. It's like a drama series that repeat several times every night. What an entertaining show to watch to end the day!

18 months old

Dear Elle,

Recently you act like a lil' person with your own mind. Whenever we ask you if you would like to do something or want something, immediately your lil' head shaking vigorously around and the word "NO" spits out of your mouth. To spice it up even more dramatic, you'd put your palm on your right cheek, as if someone having a bad toothache, growling NO! NO! NO!. Oh, that serious face, the stubborness trait in you! Mama could begin to imagine all the ittsy bitsy and biggie things you'd fight against us when you grow into the rebellious teen years.

We're wowed by your command tone of saying S.I.T! You tell us where you want to sit, pointing your finger at the seat like a little bossy person. When we deliberately ignore your request, the inner whiny beast inside you growling and you're all arm failing and leg stomping.

There has been a vocabulary explosion in you for the past month. Everyday you'd climb onto us and begin your "show and tell". You poke into our eyes saying "EYE", push down our noses saying "NOSE", point our mouth saying "MOUTH", flip our lip and touch our teeth saying "TEETH", pull both our ears saying "EAR", and knock our head saying "HEAD". You have so much fun doing this over and over again that it hurts a little bit, just a teeny bit, from all the pulling and pushing all over our face. Oh, the sweetness tone of you saying "Pleeasse" melts our heart. You crack us up screaming "HELP ME! HELP ME!!" when you're in trouble. Your curiousity accompanies with the question of "What's that?" is wondrous. You finally embrace the word "Pumpkin" and no longer call pumpkin as "apple". You love calling the word "turtle"; however, mama not so sure you relate the word to the real turtle.

When you want a hug, you say "bao bao". When you want to sleep, you say "oau oau". When you see pretty things, you say "mei mei". When you want to poop, you say "Hmmmm Hmmmmm". When you want a horsey back ride, you yell "ko ko meh". You call "mumm mumm" to all the foods you don't know their name or when you're hungry. There're many more sweet words you utter that mama wish to jot all down.

You're simply a baby full of blooper moments. The funniest, by far, is, one night you wandered to the balcony sliding door, leaned your body towards by putting both your hands against the screen door as usual. We heard a loud thump noise and saw you falling through the door and crying on your fours. Until then only we realized that the screen door had been slided open. It was dark, and you didn't realize the screen that shielded you from falling was no longer there, and you fell unexpectedly. We had quite a good laugh about it. Yes, you looked silly indeed. Mama never gets tired of telling your silly act with macaroni. You hold it up and put it next to your ear saying Halo. Oh dear, you look so hilarious that we laugh till the tears spill. On second thought, macaroni does resemble the look of a phone handle. After all, you have a imaginative mind where possibilities are endless.

Twirling is the most exicting physical milestone of the month. You twirl around in a little circle, look all cutesy and lovely. Mama believes in no time you'll spin like a wild kid with hair flying out.

Happy 18 months old! We love you, muak!

Love,
mama

Potty champion

I finally got Elle a potty chair yesterday even though I have been thinking of potty training her a couple months ago. Oh well, so much procrastination to get a piece of plastic seat. Elle had so much fun sitting in her potty chair, playing with this new toy all afternoon. It turned out that she didn't poop at all yesterday, which rarely happened, since she always poop at least one time everyday. Ironic.

The magic finally happened this afternoon. The moment she turned into a "shitty" face and made "Hmmmm Hmmmm" noises, I immediately pulled along a Babies R Us pamphlet and asked her to come to the bathroom to sit in her potty chair. Less than 10 seconds, her first poop and pee successfully landed. Yahoo, piece of cake! No sweat.
